Our History - How It All Began
Since 1995 Backstreet Studios at Brookswood Secondary School has been educating students about the world of film and television. A unique program available to students starting in grade 8, Backstreet offers students the chance to create their own individual films from beginning to end.
The film program brings together students pursuing a variety of electives and allows them to further explore areas they love; from writing and directing, to make-up and visual effects, the world of film is an area that calls for all sorts of different talents, allowing students to truly succeed in an area they are interested.
Students enrolled in the program have won awards locally, provincially and even internationally and have continued on with the profession in post secondary schools.

Objectives - What Summer Video Camp Is All About
Summer Video Camp has been developed from the Backstreet program to offer younger students the opportunity to learn how to create their first video in a fun, hands-on environment. We provide a low student-to-team leader ratio to ensure that each participant learns as much as possible. They'll learn how to develop an idea from script to screen; starting with brainstorming and story boarding, they will be taken through the entire film-making process including filming and editing. In just one week we’ll show students new techniques that they can apply to all of their future projects!
Beyond the Script and Screen
While providing a fun and interesting learning environment for participants, the Summer Video Day Camp is also a fundraiser for the Film and Television department at Brookswood Secondary. The supervising teacher, Robert French, and the team leaders volunteer their time so that the proceeds can be used to purchase new equipment as needed.
